We wanted to share some tips and our what went into our choosing Barred Rocks for our first flock. By Doug B  We wanted to share author Patrice Lewis's thoughts on the subject of Local activism. Part of Arid Acres Homestead's message is that by Homesteading or Prepping, you are relying on yourself and acting locally. You are trying to achieve independence from relying on County, State or Federal entities of any sort.
This excerpt also touches on Urban Ag Proposals like those being proposed in Tucson. Most of Tucson had been zoned Residential when annexed from the county and these ordinances would have similar consequences here. Even though some of the activities on properties with acres of land were Grandfathered when annexed and they are not technically or expressly permitted, they are not written into the codes as prohibited.  There are lots of reasons to be a Prepper or Homesteader no matter where you live or how much you have already, that just make so much sense that everyone should be doing these things!! I am not suggesting everyone begins believing that the world as we know it will end tomorrow or that society will collapse.
 When I mention “Prepper” to most people, they roll their eyes and picture Zombies. Oh, the zombie apocalypse. This concept has pervaded American culture for
decades, arguably beginning with the classic Night of the Living Dead and plenty of movies after and that now include series like AMC's The Walking Dead. |
