Things I'm Thankful for:
My wonderful and eclectic family, my health, a roof over my head, my friends and I include all of you who follow us on Facebook , Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Pinterest and here. I'm thankful for my faithful companion, Enzo (a Shep/Lab/Chow mix that I rescued from the pound), my entertaining Plymouth Barred Rocks, the friendly sheep in my care and the crops soon to be in the ground and under my care. I'm exceptionally grateful for my ex-girlfriend. I know that sounds odd but I am not being snide or snarky, we are still good friends and she got me back into hiking and eating healthier and while she couldn't see herself as a farm girl she is very encouraging of my undertakings. I am glad that I can be active in political and environmental issues like the Urban Ag Proposal Process and trying to stop the City from regulating growing crops and raising animals.
As some of you know, I do not drive a car anymore and rely on footpower, bike and public transit to get around.
This has been an adjustment, instead of just jumping into my car and driving a couple of blocks to the store I walk or wait till I have to go into town then I catch the bus and run my errands. This has taught me time management and planning as our public transit system is not always the most user friendly. During the week, the bus runs out here about every half hour until 5pm then it runs once an hour until 11, then nothing till the next morning.
I have also met some very nice people and some very different people riding the bus. I have also witnessed the dramatic rise of homeless people, including Military Veterans, sleeping in the parks along the routes I travelled over this past year. That's why this year, since I am flying solo, I will be volunteering at a shelter serving turkey dinners to those who have less to be thankful for than me.
If you need some recipe ideas click on the links above as I have been sharing some recipes over the last couple of days.
For those of you celebrating the holiday with family or friends be safe, healthy and enjoy each others company. We don't say it often enough but we appreciate you following us!
