The original pantry was a small closet with 4 or 5 shelves at the end of the hallway. Behind the pantry were 2nd closets from 2 of the bedrooms. See pic below.
Courtney's house is beautiful! Yes, there things that could be improved on and some things that should be eliminated (like the counter in the tiny kitchen). Storage is one of those areas where improvement is required, especially for food storage. This was our first major project that we completed a couple of weekends before I even moved in with them, if you don't count the emergency repair to the house's water supply line. The original pantry was a small closet with 4 or 5 shelves at the end of the hallway. Behind the pantry were 2nd closets from 2 of the bedrooms. See pic below. Rather than insult anyone's intelligence or bore you with unnecessary details, we will share the pantry build through a slide show. We used 1" x 3" pine for the shelves and supports by building a series of rectangles and attaching them to studs in the walls and to each other. Half inch thick plywood was used for the shelves. We cheated a bit by not taping, spackling and sanding the pantry walls - instead we used texturing sand mixed in with white primer/ceiling paint to cover the seams. Total time on this project was about 10 days. Over half of that was the demolition of the old walls, electrical wiring and construction of the walls by closing in the closet door openings. Total cost was just over $250.00.
